Powers - Berryhill

This is a picture of my cousin Eleanor Blanche (Powers) Berryhill on her wedding day. She is with her parents, Thomas Cecil Powers and Eunice (Lane) Powers. My father told me about spending the summers with uncle Cecil on the farm working tobacco. We were very close to Eleanor (Dad called her Blanche most of the time).

I remember how she would come and visit us when we would go on vacation. She would drive up and spend time with us on the beach. Staying up playing chicken foot, learning songs, watching the Braves. Those are fond memories.

Eleanor was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease in the fall of 2004. In just a little over a week will mark the day that we lost Eleanor three years ago.

William & Phoebe Butler

From the Maryville Enterprise Newspaper:

William Butler of Parham Hill died suddenly last Thursday, the cause of death being heart trouble. Mr. Butler had moved in from the lower part of the county the day before and it is thought that the exertion was too much for him. He was seventy-four years old. The body was taken to Carpenter's Campground for interment. The wife and several children survive. (5 April 1917)

Mrs. Pheobe Butler, age 78 years died January 25th and was buried the 26th at Carpenter's Campground. (29 December 1926)

Jonesville, VA family

The second picture is the writing from the back of this picture. It was taken in the mid to late 1930's in Jonesville, VA. If you can help identifying anyone please let me know. The writing says:

This picture was taken last summer at a party given at Mary Jess' home. The picture is made at the side of the house. Aunt Lizzie (Elizabeth Orr Sewell) gave me this picture the night we ate supper at her house. So thank her cause she told me to send it to you.
